A sense of urgency needs to be applied contextually; applied in the wrong place in the cycle, it can be destructive.
ANDREW: The number four category is Implementer, which is your best way of tackling space and tangibles, which is to restore. What do they mean by space and tangibles?
MICHAEL: It’s things you can physically fix things with your hands. This is all about how you make something happen. How do you physically create something? It seems to me that you’re able to take all the data that you work with and you integrate that into a company. You definitely connect the dots. By creating something concrete and sustainable. You may not be able to sculpt, but in a sense, your data and your work with data sculpts, and it frames an organization.
Implementor is often misunderstood. The continuum of implementor is from abstract to concrete. Implementor is not implementing. Someone who has a low level of Implentor could be excellent in implementing; it is just how they go about it. Personally, when I hear implementor, I think implements, tools, and so on.
ANDREW: I do consider myself a sculptor of data.
MICHAEL: Perfect. That’s exactly what they’re talking about. You reinforce
tangibles, you reinforce their clarity.
ANDREW: Yes, I definitely did that. At the last company I worked at, I auto- mated the processes of filling out spreadsheets that were sent to us by our suppliers like Canadian Tire, Lowes and Bass Pro Shops. We had to fill out very detailed product spreadsheets that these companies sent us. Every company has different names for product attributes like colour and length. I created a much more complete spreadsheet just by adding data and custom lookups. It cut down the time required to complete these sheets from hours to minutes.
