they could give me a good reason why that was, I’d start to build a picture of who they were and whether they would be a good fit for the organization. But I don’t think many of the HR departments in this country take that approach. They bring a checklist approach. Companies advertise the job, get a shortlist, and eliminate everybody who needs to meet the apparent criteria they seek. They often don’t reach the best; they get the best person who interviews well. I’ve had this discussion so many times over my career. But it’s tough to shift HR from the mindset they have.
I’m 73 now, and I discovered my Kolbe score in 2014 when I was doing a coaching course in the United States. Understanding that, together with the values I hold as critical to my life means that whatever life brings, I still have this bubble of joy right where it matters. I can always call on it when things are hard. We don’t understand everything, but we’re not meant to really. We are told to live with virtue, compassion and joy. This is how we get to live our best life.
