CHAPTER 3
A Values Test
FULL DISCLOSURE: I was never a big fan of tests. I recall taking a voca- tional test in high school that had me pegged as a teacher or a priest. Then, almost 30 years ago, I took a test to land a sales job at a large photocopier com- pany. Looking back on that particular job (and my less-than-stellar career at the company), I should have stuck with teaching!
However, a few tests are critical to making any decisions about becoming an entrepreneur or making any major life decisions.
I want to start with one powerful word: Values. What are values? As explained in the introduction, we all want to live a happy, balanced, harmonious life. But what values drive you to create this life?
This test will help you think about your values. Pick out ten values from this list. From these top 10, choose 4. And if, for some reason, you don’t see your value on this list, feel free to put it;
Accountable Achievement Authority Belonging Change Commitment Compassion Competence Courage Creativity Customer Service Diversity Effectiveness Efficiency Faith/religion Family Fitness Fun Growth Honesty Independence Integrity Justice Knowledge Legacy Loyalty Money/Wealth Passion Peace Perfection Quality Recognition Satisfaction Simplicity Status Structure Teamwork Trust Volunteerism Wisdom
