CHAPTER 11
We sold a lot of snowboards, but not in the beginning. In the beginning, the newspaper took a picture of my shop because my whole window was full of snowboards, which were illegal in all the mountains. They wondered how long I was going to be in business. The newspaper thought I was crazy.
I define success as whatever I get excited about and passionate about. I delve into it and do the best I can, be it from martial arts or nunchaku.
I’m usually ahead, sometimes four or five years. Snowboards, surf skates and fingerboards are just three examples of how I can see the future.
I’m not spiritual, but I get a vibe. I get a feeling that it is just out of this world. Like, I get goosebumps all over me. When something comes to me that gives me this weird feeling, I stick with it. The voice in my head says, “Keep doing it.” From computers to martial arts to skateboarding and even artificial intelligence.
In 2022, I thought, “I have to be an expert at AI. What do I have to do?” So, all I did was study AI until November 2023. At this point, I’ve built the first large language model for a skate shop. It’s still the only one in the world. As every month goes by, it gets more prominent and smarter. Now, with advances in artificial intelligence, it will blow up. It’s going to be the de facto GPT of skate- board knowledge.
My GPT knows 96 languages to speak dialects from various places. I get so ex- cited about building these Frankenstein things. Sometimes, I sit back and go, “Did I do that?” I love it, and I dive into it again.
I’ve taught my staff how to do SEO, build a website, pitch your server, and pitch your template. They know all these things because they work on it daily at Cal Streets. I feel proud that I’ve been able to teach people these valuable skills.
It all boils down to if I am excited about something. Anytime I’ve got an in- terest, I do it. There are no limits.
