What the world needs is people who are aware: of their talents and weaknesses
of the way their energies work
of the Doctrines and principles they embrace that nothing lasts without balance
ANDREW: Yes, that’s because it takes more people to run a company than to come up with the initial ideas. But even within a company, depending on the position, you’ve still got to be very creative. Apple has over 160,000 workers all over the world — how many do you think are visionaries? I would say a handful; the rest are turtles like me.
It’s an oxymoron to say, “We’re not hiring any visionaries” because companies don’t hire visionaries; they hire non-visionaries, the executioners. Visionaries don’t get hired — they hire themselves.
Visionaries can find roles in larger organizations.
MICHAEL: That’s the oxymoronic piece. This is where we’re getting into the deep takeaway from Kolbe. The fact is, if I could pay you a million dollars, you still wouldn’t be a visionary, right? And am I able to do what you do, system- atize? You could pay me a million dollars, but it’s not going to happen.
I want to zero in on this because this is the one we’re the widest apart from, and it takes us full circle. For the Quick Start, your best way of dealing with risks and uncertainty is to stabilize. So the fact that you are able to lasso all these numbers and items and rope them in and deal with all of this chaos and get the spread- sheets going and make this database going is that it limits exposure; it limits risk.
